Background
Lawrence Dallaglio was born in Shepherd's Bush, London, the son of an Italian ice cream salesman. He was educated at King's House School in Richmond, Ampleforth College and Kingston University.
He won the inaugural World Cup Sevens with England in 1993. He was then a surprise choice for the 1994 England tour to South Africa. Yet the following winter he wasn't guaranteed a place in Wasps' back row.
One season on, however, he became club captain when Rob Andrew left for Newcastle in October 1995, taking four experienced players with him. He held the club together and 12 months later led Wasps to the first professional English league title.
He made his debut for England in November 1995 and has gone on to win more than 65 caps for England. He toured South Africa with the 1997 Lions tour.
Dallaglio was part of the 2003 England grand slam and World Cup winning side. He played in every England game during the World Cup and was not replaced once.
On 15th June 2007, England coach Brian Ashton named Dallaglio as one of 47 players called up to attend the World Cup 2007 training camp.
He typifies the modern day back row player. Superbly fit and full of explosive power, his break from the back of the scrum in the 2003 World Cup final led directly to England’s try and few can forget his try against Wales in 2001 when he carried three defenders with him over the line from twenty metres.
Lawrence played in his second World Cup Final on the 20th October 2007.
