Kate Silverton, BBC News Presenter, Corporate Host, Motivational Speaker, Broadcast Journalist, Adventurer, Kate Silverton is an accomplished and extremely versatile journalist. She will launch the new BBC 8pm news bulletin and then present the One O'clock news from March 2008. She has been a hugely popular member of the Breakfast and News 24 presenting team. This past year alone she has already reported from Iraq, Lesotho, Los Angeles for the 2007 Oscars as well as the Glastonbury Festival and the 25th Falklands Commemorations. Kate has also reported for Panorama on "Right time for a baby" and "Keep Britain Dry" following the recent flooding across England. She has also presented a Panorama "IVF investigation" Kate received much acclaim for her presentation of the prime time BBC 1 programme "Ultimate Wild Water" in which she overcame a fear of open water to tackle some of the most notorious waters in Britain by kayak. In 2006 she reported on the commemoration of the 7/7 bombings from Tavistock square. Kate has had a varied career - working as a corporate financier in the City before changing direction to work in the media. She trained as a broadcast journalist with the BBC in Newcastle. From her traffic and travel days for BBC Radio Newcastle, she built up a loyal fanbase of 'jambusters' who helped create exclusive news stories, then through to the BBC political programme North of Westminster where she met and interviewed many political figures including Peter Mandelson and the late Mo Mowlam. Kate was later recruited by Tyne Tees Television to work as a reporter and newsreader alongside the region's iconic anchorman Mike Neville for the main evening news. Other credits include presenting for Five's The Wright Stuff where she covered 9/11 and the Concorde crash. She also conducted interviews and debates with Ann Widdecombe, George Galloway and Sir Richard Branson. Kate anchored 3D - a political debate programme for Sky TV- as well as BBC Radio Five Live's Weekend Breakfast show with Brian Alexander. Last year she presented the BBC's special programme on debt and spending, Hey Big Spender, with Dermot Murnaghan. She also presented alongside Rod Liddle on the BBC's political programme Weekend with Rod Liddle and Kate Silverton. Kate graduated from the University of Durham with a BSc in Psychology. She studied Arabic and Middle Eastern history for a year, fuelled by an interest in Middle East politics following a stay on a Kibbutz in Israel and then travelling with Bedouin tribesmen in Egypt. Kate has travelled extensively - including a four month stay in Zimbabwe with Raleigh International, where she helped with the building of schools, bridges and sanitation. Kate Silverton is a popular and versatile member of the Breakfast and News 24 presenting team and an experienced journalist who has covered major assignments both at home and abroad.

She won plaudits for her reporting from Iraq which included live rolling coverage following the demolition of the infamous Jamiyat prison.

She reports regularly for Panorama. She has also presented a prime time BBC 1 programme "Ultimate Wild Water" in which she overcame a phobia to tackle some of the most notorious waters in Britain by kayak.

Kate began work as a corporate financier in the City before changing direction to work in the media. She trained as a broadcast journalist with the BBC in Newcastle.
