David Penn, a professional stage and close up magician, helped pioneer the modern style of magic known as 'Close-Up' and has won more national awards for his unique style of magic than any other magician in the UK.
David is so highly respected in his field of magic that he was awarded "Associate Member of the Inner Magic Circle" and has been called upon to lecture for the International Magic Circle on two separate occasions.
David has been booked to work internationally alongside performers such as Whitney Houston, Enrique Iglesias, Status Quo and Andreas Bocceli and has performed for members of the British Royal family, The Sultan of Brunei, various Heads of State from around the world and international celebrities such as Sir Trevor McDonald, Tony Curtis, Dolly Parton and Jack Nicholson.
David has been flown by both corporate and private clients to Australia, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Istanbul, Cannes, Barcelona and Toronto to perform at Trade Shows, Private Functions and Gala Dinners and he has also had the opportunity of performing in many prestigious venues around the world; most recently on Her Majesty The Queen’s private boat.
David does not just do ‘tricks’. His unique style of magic is performed at very close quarters and will quickly captivate and then totally astound your guests. David performs amazing magic so close that, if you weren't watching live, you would think it was a camera trick.
Amongst other amazing effects; spectators' watches appear on David's own wrist, bottles of Champagne appear, a borrowed signed bank note is discovered in a kiwi fruit that a spectator is holding and goldfish materialise out of thin air! It was this elite level of magic that won David the British Magical Championships and The Magic Circle’s ‘Close-Up Magician of the Year’ award.
Areas of Expertise
David's first major competition victory was in 1994 when he won the prestigious "Magic Circle Close Up Magician of the Year". Over the next decade he continued his competition success by winning the British Magical Championships, The International Brotherhood of Magicians' Close-Up Magician of the Year, The British Champion of Illusion, Luminar Leisure Entertainer of the Year and the Magic Circle Cecil Lyle Award.
This year David also finished first out of all the British acts invited to enter the 'British Close-Up Magic Championships' at the world's largest magic convention in Blackpool. David was also presented with the coveted 'Best of British Award' in recognition of his unrivalled level of performance.
David’s unique style of magic has been featured on ITV, ITV2, BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, and Sky1. Recently, the ITV1 show "Astounding Celebrities" saw David performing for celebrities in some more unusual conditions, whether at work or on set. The shows will be screened on ITV1 & ITV2 throughout 2004/05. David is currently working on a new TV project for mainstream TV and visitors to his website will be the first to see exclusive online clips and receive air dates.
