Mark Jones 's Background
Mark Jones is one of the most experienced radio presenters currently on-air in the UK. Starting as a pimply youth in his hometown at GMR (then BBC Radio Manchester), he graduated to Liverpool's Radio City, lost his pimples and won several radio awards. These include a prestigious Sony nomination for hosting Michael Jackson's concert at Aintree Racecourse, (the "biggest solo concert in history") entertaining the crowd of more than 125,000.
After three very successful years at the North West regional station, 105.4 Century FM, Mark has returned to Radio City's Magic 1548 in Liverpool, and he also regularly hosts a daily networked radio show broadcast throughout the UK on the Magic Radio Network, plus is also often heard on Manchester's Magic 1152 (formerly Piccadilly Radio). Not limiting his talents to just radio, Mark has written and published several books, including "Mark Jones' Birthday Book", the best-seller, which became the definitive UK Radio reference book.
As an avid sports fan, (the colour green on his TV wears out before any other) Mark has been seen on the pitch presenting pre-match entertainment at both Liverpool and Everton FC, and spent several seasons at Tranmere Rovers. Mark has featured on Channel 4 and Sky Sports on all the One Day cricket Internationals, Test Matches and County games around the UK.
He presented all the pre-match interviews with legends Ian Botham, David Gower, Michael Holding, Richie Benaud and David "Bumble" Lloyd. He is the regular host for the Masters' Football Series, shown live on Sky Sports. Mark was also the man-on-the-pitch-with-a-microphone at Knowsley Road, home of World Club Champions, St Helens RLFC, and for the 2004 season, was on the pitch for Leeds Rhinos' home games at Headingley, and is often seen at Old Trafford Cricket Ground for Lancashire CCC's home games.
Mark Jones 's Areas of Expertise
Mark Jones would happily admit that Sportsmen's dinners are his specialist subject; he gets to meet his heroes, gets paid, and, more importantly, he gets fed! Mark has compèred hundreds of events over the years, working with many of his sporting idols; included in the (very) long list are David Beckham, Mike Atherton, Frank Bruno and Sir Alex Ferguson.
He's also hosted a very successful "sportsmen's-dinners-for-the-troops" tour of Kosovo in 2000 with Alan Ball, MBE and Jack Charlton, OBE.
Mark was asked to host the sell-out Man Utd vs Man City legends match at the 17,000 capacity MEN Arena with Sir Alex Ferguson, Kevin Keegan and singer Russell Watson, a charity event for the Dependents of the New York Firefighters. (Mark was only a few blocks away from the World Trade Center Towers on the morning of 9/11 and reported "live" from the scene for UK radio for several days after the tragedy).
He regularly hosts the Manchester United Player-of-the-Year awards at Old Trafford plus numerous other prestigious awards ceremonies, business conferences, charity fundraisers and golf days, etc., throughout the UK, these include hosting CRUFTS at the NEC, Birmingham! Mark also covered the 2004/5 Manchester United and Liverpool FC pre-season American Tours for UK radio.
