Marc Woods 's Background

Marc Woods is a keynote speaker and BBC commentator.

A member of the British Swimming team at 5 Paralympic Games Marc was at the forefront of the cultural change that turned a disparate group of individuals into a world beating force.

At 17 he was diagnosed with bone cancer and had his left leg amputated. At a time when his friends were learning to drive Marc was embarking on a intensive regime of chemotherapy. Marc had previously been a county standard swimmer but within 6 months he was swimming quicker with one leg than he did before when he had two. He had chosen to try and be exceptional and worked extremely hard toward his goal of winning a Paralympic Gold Medal. He went on to win a total of twelve Paralympic medals from five consecutive Games, including four Golds.

The delegates get to share the high points of his career and understand how Marc coped and worked through the low points. On this journey he talks about the need to take personal responsibility, motivating both himself and his team and becoming an effective leader. The presentation culminates with some excellent video footage showing the team of which he was part of winning the gold medal in Sydney and in Athens.

In short Marc illustrates how the hurdles that have been put in front of him have simply made him jump higher.

Marc Woods 's Areas of Expertise

Marc uses his own personal story to illustrate the difference between making the decision to strive to become exceptional as opposed to being satisfied with merely being good. It is a story about getting knocked down but getting up again and aiming to be the best you can be. In short it is a presentation that mirrors the attributes that anyone wanting to be succeed in business must have.

As Marc takes your delegates through his story he draws parallels to the challenges that face businesses today. From the need for everyone to take personal responsibility to team cohesion and through to organisational culture change; each element will resonate with anyone who wants to be successful.

Perhaps more importantly though Marc's presentation will inevitably win over those who have not yet bought into an organisation's plans, those people who are holding back a business and inhibiting it from achieving its true potential.

An unexpected defeat in Atlanta, and the realisation that a supposed team had not shared a common goal and therefore failed to achieve its potential, led to a rebuilding process. A change in culture was required one where everyone needed to understand the power of teamwork.

This rebuilding process could not have been more successful with Marc's team taking Gold and setting new world records at both the Sydney 2000 and the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games.

The messages within Marc's presentation are all very clear. They are delivered in a powerful and entertaining way that encourages the audience to be the best they can be and to implement this attitude into their everyday work life.
