David Bryon 's Areas of Expertise
David now combines his successful speaking career with other media commitments. These include hosting cable TV shows, writing articles, and appearing as a regular guest on various national programmes including Five Live, Radio 2's Jeremy Vine Show, BBC News 24, and Sky News.
David talks about Business Growth, Customer Service, Leadership, Sustainability and Environmental impact of Business, and what businesses everywhere can learn from the aviation industry;
• BMI Baby started as a small operation and grew to a turnover of over £400m inside 4 years.
• This rapid growth happened in the highly challenging and competitive aviation sector.
• What can other businesses and companies in other sectors learn from this success story and rapid growth?
• The business model adopted by many low cost carriers focused on 7 'C's:
• Competition: SME companies typically dislike competition, but in order to grow and thrive they have to be able to survive in the face of competition.
• Cost control: regardless of the size of your company you have more control over costs that revenue. Managing costs and suppliers is essential to be competitive. Rapid growth is important because it helps to dilute many of the fixed costs, hence SME companies need to understand this benefit in both the short and long-term.
• Cash Flow: unlike the vast majority of businesses airlines take money up front, often months in advance. Cash flow often kills small businesses. Any measures that can improve cash flow will help companies survive and grow.
• This will not drive a business forward and exploit opportunities, challenge and change is the mindset to adopt in order to succeed.
• Communication: Both internal and external communication is essential, especially in a rapidly evolving and growing company.
• Customer service: the term ‘customer service' is overused and poorly understood. It is actually more about ‘managing customer expectation' than customer service. To succeed you need to under promise and over deliver. This is actually easier within a small company because it can be controlled and managed. As companies grow they need to ensure that quality control measures are in place to deliver their expected level of customer service throughout the business.
• Challenge & Change: businesses often adopt Benchmark and Best Practice.
In addition to after-dinner speaking, David's business and media background make him the perfect event facilitator, capable of managing all subjects and injecting humour into any occasion.
