He was asked to appear in "Ronnie and Friends" at the Fairfield Halls with Ronnie Corbett, Jasper Carrott, Jimmy Tarbuck and Bruce Forsyth. The list also includes The Bee Gees, Elkie Brooks, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Billy Connolly, David Essex, George Harrison, Bob Hoskins, Barry Humphries, Elton John, Elaine Paige and Rod Stewart.

Bob 'The Cat' Bevan MBE's Background

While his nickname - the Cat - indicates his goalkeeping background - Bob is a top corporate comedian tailoring his act to the characters in the audience. Bob's act travels well. He has appeared in Australia and the USA on a number of occasions as well as Hong Kong, Kenya and South Africa.

He has made countless TV and radio appearances. He followed Danny Baker as presenter of BBC Radio 5's Six-O-Six Show. Last year saw him appear as a stand-up comic in the BBC 1 Variety Show -Jim Davidson Presents and Auntie's Bloomers with Terry Wogan for the fourth time.

In January he was the subject of a documentary on Meridian TV on which channel he has also had his own show. He has appeared frequently on Sky TV, including as a spoof cricket reporter and on a Christmas panel of four comedians - Jim Bowen, Bernard Manning, Jimmy Tarbuck and Bob.

In April 2001 he appeared in front of 5,000 people at The Royal Albert Hall at a Tribute Bands Concert.

He has appeared with several members of the Royal Family and alongside the late Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Runcie, one of the many public figures he has written for.

 

Bob 'The Cat' Bevan MBE's Areas of Expertise

Bob had a highly successful business career in journalism and public relations. He is still a Member of the Institute of Public Relations and the National Union of Journalists. He was a reporter on Lloyd's List, the daily shipping newspaper, and deputy editor of a travel trade magazine. He was Group Director of Public Relations for European Ferries for 14 years and has twice run his own PR consultancy with some success. He made his first speech at his old boys dinner in 1967 and turned professional in 1980.

Sport is his great love. He played football for West Wickham in the Southern Amateur League and Old Wilsonians in the Southern Olympian League for 25 years and still plays in veteran games. Before going in goal he was an inside forward and once scored six goals in an 8-2 win against Unilever.

He achieved a lifelong ambition by playing at Wembley for Old Burnley against Old Wolves in front of 80,000 prior to a Cup Final. He plays cricket for the Lord's Taverners and his village side and has played 1st XI North Kent League cricket. Playing for a Kent XI in 1991 he took 7 for 49 against Hextable and 11 for 69 in a two innings match the following year against the same opponents. He has also played Kent League tennis

He is a Trustee of the major cricket-based charity The Lord's Taverners, and Honorary Barker in the Variety Club and a Member of the Grand Order of Water Rats. He is President of Bells Yew Green CC, a Vice President of Crystal Palace FC, Middlesex Wanderers FC, Frant CC, Old Wilsonians FC and a Past President of the Old Wilsonians Association. He is a member of Nevill Golf Club.

He has appeared four times at the Footballer of the Year Dinner - a record - and also twice at the Professional Footballers Association Player of the Year Awards - most recently in 1999. Of the 92 Premier and Football League clubs Bob has appeared at 71 of their dinners.
